What conditions are needed for this training to be effective?

In my experience, the following factors are important for this type of training to be effective.

1. Motivated participants
  • Participants are interested in the training and want to learn.
  • Participants have at least one learning goal that they want to achieve.
2. Opportunities to practise
  • Participants have the opportunity to use their new skills.
  • Participants feel allowed to experiment with their new skills (and that they will not experience negative consequences if they don’t get it right first time.)
3. Follow-up support after short training
  • Follow-up support from a line manager, mentor or buddy is especially important after a short training.
If these conditions are not currently present, the training will not be as impactful as it could be. I can discuss with you whether your conditions sound right for a training and whether or not training sounds like it would be effective at this point.
